Our Materials

We are continuously working towards incorporating materials with as little impact on nature as possible and are committed to a long-term journey of developing and offering more alternatives. To bring transparency to this process, we have created a Product Material Appendix, outlining our goals and timelines for the materials we will prioritize moving forward, in close collaboration with our suppliers. The Product Material Appendix also includes animal welfare requirements for animal materials to ensure that making the materials for our products doesn’t cause any suffering.

While synthetic materials offer unique benefits, they also come with challenges. Their production requires large amounts of chemicals, and they can release microplastics that harm the environment. That’s why at ADOORE, we are actively working to reduce the use of synthetic materials in our future collections.

When synthetic materials are necessary, we prioritize recycled alternatives over virgin ones, preferably certified by the Recycled Content Standard (RCS) or the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). Our ultimate goal is for our recycled materials to be textile-to-textile recycled.

Cashmere

Cashmere is an incredibly soft and lightweight material with excellent insulating properties, making it perfect for both cold and mild temperatures. It is also breathable and naturally temperature-regulating, providing exceptional comfort. Its luxurious feel and warmth make it one of the most sought-after materials for exclusive garments. For the best care of your knitwear, read our care guide. Our requirements for animal welfare must be complied with for all cashmere used in our products.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural fiber known for its high comfort, softness, excellent breathability, and its ability to effectively absorb moisture. Additionally, cotton is easy to care for, as it can withstand higher wash temperatures without compromising its quality.

We are aware that conventional cotton farming uses large quantities of synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. That’s why we aim to exclusively use organic cotton certified to OEKO-TEX ORGANIC COTTON, GOTS, or OCS standards, or recycled cotton wherever possible, certified by GRS, RCS, or equivalent standards.

We also strive to avoid blending cotton with synthetic fibers to facilitate easier recycling at the end of its lifecycle.

Elastane (Spandex, Lycra)

Elastane, also known as spandex or Lycra, is a synthetic fiber designed to provide high elasticity. In our tailored garments, we use elastane to enhance fit and shape, ensuring a flattering, comfortable silhouette.

Linen

Linen is a natural fiber made from the flax plant, known for its strength and durability. It’s highly breathable and absorbs and releases moisture quickly, which makes it perfect for warm weather. Additionally, linen softens with each wash. Linen does not require a lot of pesticides or water in cultivation. While it wrinkles easily, this is part of its natural appeal.

Nylon (Polyamide)
Nylon is a synthetic fiber made from fossil resources. Like polyester, nylon is highly durable and resistant to wear. It also offers high elasticity and quick drying, making it particularly suitable for activewear and functional materials like swimwear.

Polyester

Polyester is a synthetic fiber made from fossil resources. It is durable with high abrasion resistance, can withstand high temperatures, and holds its color exceptionally well. Additionally, polyester retains its shape, which is a major advantage for our dresses focused on perfect fit.

PU (Polyurethane)
Polyurethane (PU), is a material commonly used as a substitute for leather. PU is durable, water-resistant, and easy to clean. For people who do not want to wear leather products, PU can be a good alternative. However, PU is a synthetic material that does not easily biodegrade.

Rayon
Rayon is made from cellulose fibers, derived from wood pulp. It is soft, comfortable, and has properties similar to both cotton and silk. Rayon is breathable, absorbent, and has a shiny, beautiful surface, giving it a luxurious feel. Depending on the manufacturing process, there are different types of rayon, such as viscose, lyocell, modal, and cupro, which differ in their properties.

The material can lose its strength when wet, which can cause the garment to shrink during washing. Click here to learn how to restore the original shape.

Wool

Wool has exceptional insulating properties that retain heat, while also being breathable and moisture-wicking, making it comfortable to wear in both cold and warm weather. Wool is a natural, durable and biodegradable material. We require mulesing-free wool for all our products. For the best care of your knitwear, read our care guide.
